Stephen Miles Uzzo, PhD
As a leader in the science center and education field, I research and develop public programs, experiences, and large-scale initiatives in science, technology, and human culture. These initiatives build communities of practice in complexity, data-driven science and engineering, and improve science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) literacy for underserved youth and communities. I'm also very active in science and education practice and policy. My background includes over twenty years experience in the research of connected systems and teaching and learning in data-driven STEM. And prior to that, ten years in video and computer graphics systems engineering. My work also includes developing and managing graduate programs in STEM teaching and learning.
My research interests include the coupling of complex human and natural systems, evolution and scaling of complex networks, smart cities, and the impact of big data and AI on communities of need. I hold a terminal degree in network theory and environmental studies from Union Institute and serve on a number of institutional and advisory boards related to my interests. Having never lived very far from the ocean in New York, Massachusetts, and California, I have been a lifelong advocate for marine science and conservation. I am always looking for opportunities for collaboration, challenging and innovative ideas for exhibitions and programs, and innovative research methods in complexity, learning science, and connected systems,
